WELCOME TO THE
ACT MOTORCYCLE CLUB

ABOUT

The ACT Motorcycle Club has operated at Fairbairn Park since 1973.   We are a not-for-profit association run by volunteers to provide controlled access to Motocross and Dirt Track facilities.

ACTMCC has 5 different tracks:

  • Main MX Track for ride days and racing

  • Intermediate MX Track designed with smaller jumps to be less challenging than the main MX Track.

  • Nippers MX Track for riders on 2-stroke 65cc or 110cc 4-stroke bikes and smaller.

  • Dirt Track for dirt track racing and ride days

  • Kumagutza is a natural terrain track without any purpose-built jumps.

  • Enduro track – this is under construction with plans to open in the first half of 2024.

All ride days and race meetings are published on the clubs Facebook page @actmcc

RACING

Our goal is to be the preferred place to race for local riders.  With this goal in mind, the club continues to improve our tracks and facilities while conducting annual multi round Motocross and Dirt Track Club Championships.

Race Entry Fees

One race class: $50.00

Each additional race class: $15.00

Who Can Race

Subject to having your relative Endorsement, racing is available to riders aged 7 and up. Juniors aged from 7 to U16 years will need to have completed an accredited Kickstart course which are run throughout the year at our club. You can also attend an accredited Kickstart course from other clubs in Australia. Once your child has completed the Kickstart course, you will have 12 months to apply for a Junior National Race License (through Ridernet.com.au) which you will need prior to racing.

Seniors 16 years and up will require a Senior National Licence.  If you are progressing from junior racing to senior, no assessment is required for this licence.  If you are a senior and new to racing, you will need to complete a riding assessment with our club coach to qualify for a Senior National Licence.  If you have a current road bike licence, you will not need to complete this assessment.

Nippers aged 4 to U9 can participate in the 50cc demonstration class.  No assessment is required but you must obtain a Mini Licence through Ridernet.com.au.

Rider Endorsements

Junior Riders will be endorsed on their chosen bike when doing the Kickstart course.  Each time a rider intends to move up a class (e.g. Change from 50cc to 65cc) a new endorsement assessment is required.  This can be conducted by a coach or a Race Steward or Clerk of Course and must be recorded on your Junior National race licence on Ridernet before you can race in that class.  As a result, the assessment cannot be done on the morning of a race meeting to allow you to compete in that meeting. Please make sure you organise this well in advance of a race day if needed.

Activities

Race Day Rules & Regulations

While you are online , check out the Manual of Motorcycle Sport for details on race classes, race number colours, safety gear and more. All bikes must pass scrutineering on the morning of each race day (before the race briefing which is usually at around 8:45am at the canteen). Reach out to the club if you would like to know more about passing scrutineering.

When you register for a race day, you will be required to acknowledge the event supplementary -regulations for the race day.

If you enter a race meeting, you will need to provide a Marshall to carry out marshalling duties. In MX, there are 14 marshall points, start gates, starter or score tower for 1 of 3 sessions which last for around 2-2.5hrs each.  All Marshalls must be 16 years or older. Seniors can do the marshalling themselves (you will not miss your races if you Marshall in session 2) or bring an able-bodied person aged over 16 to fulfil this role for them. Juniors (U16) must bring an able bodied person 16 years or older to do their Marshalling duty.

At DT all riders are required to bring a Marshall.  If you do not have a Marshall you may be rostered to fulfill this role and you may miss a round of racing on the day.

A, B or C Grade Rider Gradings

All senior riders wanting to race will default to C-Grade, unless your Senior National licence has been endorsed to race B-Grade or A-Grade. If you want to upgrade to B-Grade or A-Grade you must score points in qualified events and be approved to upgrade by the MNSW Motocross Subcommittee. Typically points are scored through an Open Event, State or National Title. Refer to the MNSW website for more information. It is worth noting that you cannot ride in A or B Grade if you haven’t been endorsed by the MNSW Motocross Subcommittee prior to the race day (it needs to be shown on your Ridernet profile on the race day).

Race Day Program

Each year, the Championship series is typically made up of 5 rounds with 3 races per class (MX) and 4 races per class (DT) at each round. We also aim to have a single Feature Race per round for Seniors and Juniors at MX rounds.

All Nipper riders will receive a medal at the end of the race meeting.  All Junior race classes will be awarded medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the end of each round.

The highest placed girl in each junior race class will be awarded a medal at the end of each round, unless this rider has already been awarded 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in that race class.

Club Championships

A point score is allocated to riders at each race meeting and contributes to a cumulative Championship point score for awarding a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place trophy at the end of year presentation day for MX and DT. To qualify for a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place trophy in the Club Championship your race class must have participated in 75% or more of the Club Championship rounds. Riders need to complete a race if they are to receive a point score.

In addition to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd class trophies, we aim to award two other trophy’s. A trophy for the Most Improved Rider (Senior and Junior) - this is judged on the improvement in racing and position in the championship point score over the previous year.

A trophy for the Rider of the Year (senior and junior) - this award will consider the rider's position in the club championship and the level of competition in that class, sportsmanship, and results at other club, open, state and national meetings.

Note that you must use an active MyLaps MX Transponder if you want to earn a point score in the MX Championship series (excludes Nippers). You are welcome to race without one but you won’t be scored.

FAQ

CAN ANYONE RIDE AT A RIDE PARK DAY?

Almost anyone, you must be 4 years of age or older, have your own motorcycle and safety gear.  A minimum of helmet, goggles, gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirt and boots that cover your ankles are required.  Body armour is also recommended for juniors.  You do not need to be a club member and you do not need a licence.

CAN I VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUT?

Absolutely.  There are many ways you can help out at your club regardless of how many hours you might be able to commit.  You may wish to be a race or ride park day official, assist with track or facilities maintenance, help in the canteen, do some gardening, clean the toilets or assist with lap scoring, flagging or starting on race days.  Without volunteers we don't exist.

FAQ

POLICY AND FORMS

BIKES ON TRACK

The ACT Motorcycle Club wants to be a good neighbour and will abide by EPA noise restrictions.  This means no motorcycle will be started at the facility between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00am on any day.

Any bike found to exceed local EPA noise restrictions of 90dBA during a 30 meter ride by assessment will be required to reduce the noise output of the machine before continuing to ride.

No motorcycle will be ridden at the facility unless the relevant track license, ride, race or coaching permit and relevant insurance is in place.

All riders have an obligation to attend sign on, complete the appropriate paperwork and pay fees prior to riding.

Breaches may expose the club and/or the rider to legal liability.  As a result the club may take disciplinary action against those that breach these rules.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Motorcycling Australia has a detailed policy which provides practical guidance about using social media and other forms of electronic communication and sets out a framework for acceptable online behaviour.

The policy covers communication by those involved in motorcycle sport, including clubs and club members.  You should be familiar with the policy to ensure you communicate appropriately and do not leave yourself open to disciplinary action by the ACT Motorcycle Club or Motorcycling Australia.

The MA Social Media Policy can be found on the MA Website.
